Divorce, Marriage & Step-Families
In 1981 Rob Kaufman founded DIVORCE DIALOGUE(sm) , the oldest and longest running support group in Los Angeles for separated or divorced men and women. As a psychotherapist he has helped hundreds of families cope with the anguish of DIVORCE - the anger, loss and loneliness experienced by adults and children alike. If you struggle with questions like how much should I tell my children? How much should I reveal on a first date? How can I get my ex to be more involved with the kids? and How do I let go of my spouse and get on with my life? you would benefit from a therapist as experienced with divorce issues as Mr. Kaufman.
But not everyone gets divorced. Many couples seek MARRIAGE AND COUPLE COUNSELING with Rob to improve their communication skills, increase closeness and intimacy, and resolve conflicts to create a stronger bond. If you feel so into being mom & dad that you can't find your way back to girlfriend & boyfriend; if you feel your partner doesn't understand you; or if you feel like a single parent and your spouse is another one of your kids - then counseling with Rob Kaufman can help revitalize your marriage.
Marrying someone who has children from a previous marriage is a big step. Marrying someone who has children from a previous marriage when you also have children from a previous marriage is an even bigger step. In either case you better "watch your step." But that's not why they are called STEP FAMILIES. The blending of families means the blending of people, personalities, values, interests, morals, and much more. If you struggle with helping your kids accept your spouse; if you and your spouse disagree on parenting styles; or if setting limits with your spouse's ex is difficult - then consider the next step - counseling with Rob Kaufman who by the way is a member of a step family.Parent-Child & Adoption
While attending UCLA, where he received his Masters in Social Welfare (MSW), Rob completed an internship at Pacific Oaks Clinics (formerly Pasadena Child Guidance Clinics) where he worked exclusively with families and children who were abused, neglected, or had problems in school and at home. Mr. Kaufman also interned at the UCLA Neuropsychiatric Institute and Hospital - Mental Retardation Child Psychiatry Department, where he continued to work exclusively with children, adolescents and families. After graduation he worked in residential treatment at Vista Del Mar Child & Family Services with juvenile delinquents, abused and neglected children, adoptees, and adolescents with severe emotional problems. Mr. Kaufman later became the Clinical Director of Aviva Center, a residential treatment center for adolescent girls. He has also worked extensively with families who struggle with adoption issues.
