Mediation offers you a way to settle your differences by meeting with a neutral third party, who will work with you to promote understanding and to resolve your dispute. Unlike an attorney, a mediator does not take sides or give legal advice. Mediation is voluntary and confidential, and allows those involved to develop a settlement agreeable to both sides. In general, the benefits of mediation are: Less expensive than litigation; Less time-consuming and more convenient; A simpler process; Confidential and voluntary; More control: the solutions are determined by you, not a court; Better communication & parenting skills; and Mediation encourages self-determination. Mediation can be useful in a variety of situations. You may wish to avoid hiring attorneys and trying your dispute in court, or, you might already have attorneys and wish to try mediation as an alternative.
