Severed Roots- Becoming Whole after Divorce
(provided by Heidi M. Day, "Suddenly Single" Life Coach)
Remember the Beta Fish & Peace Lilly Planter craze that swept the country a few years ago? You know the clear vases with the plant, marbles and fish in them??? Well in my attempt to create my home version of this I embarked on the task of separating a little Peace Lily so that I could have the perfect portion to insert into the vase. Although the Lily appeared to have three distinct stalks when I got to the root system it was only one root system. I tugged and pulled to no avail. In order to separate the roots I had to cut them apart.
Isnąt it that way when we get divorced? Although we present as two people our root system has become one--- mind, body and Spirit. When a cut is made we are left wounded and incomplete. Many women face three similar challenges: isolation, insufficiency and inferiority. Overcoming these barriers is a challenge that should not be faced alone. A few tips for working through these obstacles are:
1. Donąt go it alone- create a support system.
2. Forgive yourself for the marriage failing and commit to be the best YOU that you can be.
3. Make your voice, needs and feelings a priority in your life and teach others to do likewise.
As you reinvent yourself and your life commit to moving forward with passion, peace and purpose!
