Through a federal grant to the 306th District Court, all emergency cases involving children taken into custody by Children's Protective Services are mediated within two weeks of the agency taking possession of the child. The first year of this project begun in September of 1997, has been such a success that funding has been received for a second year of the program. Ms. Duff, one of the four original mediators in the program, has been actively involved in Its instrumentation and success. By bringing all parties to the table at the time the problem is identified, these mediations mean that children are being moved out of foster care at a much more rapid rate.
