Document summary:
The husband transferred certain property to wife, which portion later appreciated in value. The question confronting the court was how to characterize, first, the property and, second, the appreciated portion of the property. In this case, the couple married in 1966. In 1967, they acquired 37.6 acres of unimproved real estate at auction for $16,000. They constructed a log cabin of 2,294 square feet on the property and used it as the marital home. The remainder of the real estate was used for a farming operation.
