Why Men Seek Alimony
Most men who seek alimony do so for the same reasons women have. For example, many men put their wife’s career needs above their own. If, after years of supporting her career efforts she decides to divorce, these same men feel entitled to the compensation of alimony. These men sacrificed their careers so their wives could build theirs. Sometimes men seek alimony because they gave up their career pursuits to become a stay-at-home parent – a Mr. Mom. If there is a divorce, these men feel they deserve compensation for years of raising children, doing laundry and cooking dinner. Men seek alimony as a way to negotiate a better divorce settlement agreement. Men know that it is a sharp knife to be used with a wife who does not like the idea of writing a monthly check. The wife, in search of a clean break, may give up the vacation home or a larger share of her retirement benefits when it means amputating all ties with her soon–to-be former husband.

TYPES OF ALIMONY -- Alimony is mainly divided into four categories: temporary alimony, rehabilitative alimony, permanent alimony and reimbursement alimony. Temporary alimony (alimony pendente lite) is given to one spouse (usually the woman) pending a divorce. Rehabilitative alimony is given to a lesser earning spouse until she (or he) becomes self-sufficient. Permanent alimony is also given to the lesser earning spouse until the death of either one of them or until remarriage of the recipient. Reimbursement alimony is given as reimbursement for the expenses incurred by a spouse during the time of marriage.
