Sesame Street says, "D is for Divorce."
Through a new initiative called, "Little Children, Big Challenges: Divorce", Sesame Street helps children ages 2 - 8 understand divorce through video, song, coloring book and so much more. The initiative also provides parents, extended family members, and friends tools and tips on coping with divorce or separation. Sesame Street experts say, "Divorce is one of the most common major transitions in children's lives, with 40 percent of all children experiencing the divorce of their parents. With 'Little Children, Big Challenges: Divorce', Sesame Street has created much-needed resources for families with young children (ages 2 through 8) as they encounter the tough transitions that come with divorce." But don't set your DVR to watch episodes about divorce as Sesame Street's divorce resources are available only on the Sesame Street website. You can preview all the materials available and decide what, when and how you might want to share them with your child. Sesame Workshop has also created a variety of materials for kids including a coloring book and storybook that can be downloaded to your computer or e-reader. And of course there are wonderful short videos, 16 of them that you can watch on your computer with your child or download on iTunes to watch later covering topics such as:
and more. Every situation is different and no one knows your family better than you do. But Sesame Workshop has also created a 20-page, downloadable guide with a variety of useful information you can tailor to your unique situation including:
I encourage you to take a look at these resources available, free of charge, to you through the Sesame Workshop. I think it is helpful for both parents and children to realize that they are not alone – that there are numerous different people dealing with the issues of divorce. These resources can help normalize the experience for children and can let parents know about the valuable resources available to them and the many tools to help their child through their divorce.

Sesame Street says, "D is for Divorce."
Massachusetts permits several grounds for divorce, including the traditional fault grounds (such as adultery or incarceration) as well as no-fault grounds, which means a faultless but irretrievable breakdown of the marriage has occurred.
