Surviving Divorce & Separation: Ways to Save Money: Dining Out:
Did you know more than a third of your food budget is spent at snack bars, donut shops, fast food restaurants and cafeterias. It's true. The average American dishes out 33% of his or her food budget on all the above. You can be better than average and save from $50 to $150 a month by taking these tips:
- Eat at home whenever possible. It takes discipline, but you've got it!
- Pack all school and office lunches. Brown-bagging is cool.
- Form a dinner club with friends or relatives and dine once a month at each other's home. The socialization is a bonus.
- Avoid tourist area restaurants. Why pay more for the same microwave meal?
- Limit drinks to one per person. Especially cocktails, which give dining establishments a high profit margin.
- Enjoy your coffee but forget dessert. Perks, not pies, can satisfy and save you money.
