Surviving Divorce & Separation: Ways to Save Money: Household Expenses:
Clip 10% off your utility bills and add the savings to your credit card payments:
- Lower your thermostat to 68 degrees and wear a sweater.
- Lower it to 60 degrees when no one will be home for a while and at bed time. Cool air is healthier for slepping.
- Lower the thermostat on your hot water heater.
- Run the dishwasher, clothes washer and dryer only with full loads. Use energy-saving settings and the coolest water settings suggested by the manufacturer of each appliance.
- Don't forget about the trusty clothesline in the warmer months.
- Don't allow water to run while shaving or brushing teeth.
- Use the new energy-saving bulbs and turn lights and TV's off when you leave a room.
- Insulate: Your local power company can inspect your home for drafts and energy efficiency. Often, this is a free service.
