Frequently Asked Questions About the Research Service

What is The Research Assistant Service?

This service is a way to get help from Researchers that have access to information in an array of divorce related issues. A Researcher will e-mail you the answer and provide you with an easy to understand e-mail memo, which will contain your answer and explanation along with references to cases, articles, resources and/or websites to help you do even more discovery on your own.

While our Researchers will do their best to help with every request, some questions simply don't have clear answers (e.g., "Should I have tried to get custody of my children?"). It's also possible the answer to your question is simply not available. If you do receive an answer, but are not satisfied with it, you can first request additional research through an "Answer Clarification" request. If still unsatisfied, you can ask for a full refund.

What questions can I ask?

You can ask any question that can be answered with words or numbers. Most people using this service are looking for a specific piece of information like, "How is child support calculated in Georgia?" or "What state do I file for divorce in?". Our Researchers are not necessarily experts in the field related to your question, but they are experts in locating hard to find information, which will give you the answers you need. Keep in mind that the Research Assistant Service is not a substitute for professional advice or services.

How much do answers cost?

For each submission, there is a cost of $29.95. You may ask several questions for the $29.95 fee, but they must all be related to the same issue.

For example: If I want to get a divorce and I live in California and my wife lives in Texas, what state should we file in? Which one of us should be responsible for filing? Does it make a difference in the outcome depending upon who actually files for the divorce? As, you can see there are actually three questions being asked, but they would ALL be answered for the $29.95 fee.

What if I don't like my answer? Can I get a refund?

If you are not fully satisfied with your answer for whatever reason, the first step is to request a clarification of your answer by calling 1-800-680-9052 Monday through Friday 9am to 6pm Est.

If you are still dissatisfied after you recived the clarification, you may apply for a full refund. If you want a refund, you'll be asked to explain why you were unsatisfied with your answer.

What kind of answer will I receive?

Your answer will likely consist of a few paragraphs or more of information that answers your question as well as links to websites that can provide more material. If you are asking a question of a professional nature, the Researcher will provide you with useful information pertinent to your question, but this information is not a substitute for consulting with a professional for the necessary advice and services.

What if a question doesn't have a clear answer?

Some questions simply don't have clear, straightforward answers that can be answered through an on-line search or through another reference source (e.g. "Which parent is better, the mother or the father?"). In such cases, Researchers will attempt to provide links to useful background information on the question.

Who will answer my question?

Your question will be answered by a Divorce Source Researcher. These researchers are the same people who have and are involved in developing divorce related content for the Divorce Source Network. The researchers have full access to an enormous divorce library of reference materials as well as several top research tools.
