Alimony for an older woman who will never acheive self-sufficient, needs to keep up with inflation.
Inflation in the USA hovers around 3%, which means in 15 years, that $1200 will only be worth $600 in today's dollars.
After 27 years of marriage, of which I'm sure most were spent supporting her husband and children, end up living below poverty while the husband goes off to live very nicely.
Not fair and equitable.
