Not taken personally.....I guess I just got the mistaken sense that you felt like $30,000/year (18K alimony) was a good deal for someone who wouldn't 'have to bother working'......my bad.

I agree Gal's "30K is poverty level" point was rather silly. Why argue with someone from an area about what the cost of living is in that area if you don't have definitive info to disprove the points alreay made ? I don't get it......

I think OP's stbx is lucky to live where she does. My base ssdi is 24K right now. It may increase when they recrunch the numbers because I no longer get WC. I have no idea what SS will be, if I get that, but I can tell you I will be SCREWED trying to live off 24K in my area. I hate the thought of moving because my whole family is in my area, but that may be my choice to be more financially comfortable in another location.

lol on the federal government increasing ssdi amounts. The amounts are based on a percentage of your wages over the quarters counted/contributing to the system. The system would just go broke sooner if they up'd the rates.
