I live in MN, and survived on $8000 a year for a few years after support and taxes, AND shared 50/50 physical custody. It was very helpful in the long run...I learned how to stretch each dollar to really at least 2.
$30K where I live in MN would do a single person very well....nice apt, newer car and a decent yearly vacation.
