I don't know about IL but here in good ole TN we are a 50/50 state. Assett and debt. don't "stop" or freezeframe at the time of seperation but are decided and settled at the final hearing. I foolishly thought otherwise and paid alot of stuff off in the two years we were in process (about 18,000.00) and just "lost" all of that money. Had I just allowed it to rack up, she would have been liable for half of it. The debt that she racked up during that two year period was still half mine. Go figure.
She spent over 7500.00 on a rental house that she renovated and about 13,000.00 on new furn. Guess what, yep, I got to pay half, and she was already moved out of the house she put all that money into!
Maybe you should go out and bury yourself in some new stuff? He just might have to cover half of it!
