I tend to think it sends the wrong message to give the kid the ball, whether he or his parents wanted it or not. DD was a crier/tantrum thrower. If people had thrown her money every time they wanted to throw some treat or whatever at her, I'd be rich. I would never allow people to give her stuff like that. Whether she "wanted" something or not, it gives the perception that "oh, I cried, someone gave me something". Not a good thing. I wouldn't have given the kid the ball. In fact? I'd probably give it to the kid nearest me who hadn't/misbehaved or pitched a fit. AND I'd make a POINT to tell crying child and parents WHY they weren't getting the ball. And yes, I've done this IRL, not sporting goods lol..but definitely items. |
