Yes, some people who respond can be quite blunt. Others can be almost cruel. Fortunately most of the people who respond try to be kind and helpful. There are often good answers on the board. It's hard not to take some of the posts personally and get offended at times. I think some posters are feeling a lot of personal pain and they use this forum to vent. I think sometimes they don't realize how hurtful their responses can be to others. I wish you the best of luck in solving your IRS issues.
