Anyone going through a divorce, especially one that is "very tense" should have competent legal counsel representing them! It sounds like you don't have any attorney. You need one.

I am a paralegal, so unfortunately I cannot give you legal advice. However, there are circumstances where a spouse can obtain "exclusive use and possession" of the marital residence, as well as child and spousal support, as a form of temporary relief from the courts.

You really should have an attorney before signing anything or before filing anything with the courts. If you live in Northern Virginia, feel free to PM me and I will be happy to give you some local resources.
