community property question?

It seems that my stbx's former employer owed him some money since I noticed a deposit that was made in our joint checking account today. He worked for this employer BEFORE I filed for divorce so would the money he just received be part of the community property and I would rightfully be entitled to half? Also, he was let go from this employer before I filed for divorce.

Income earned before the legal valuation date (different in different states) is joint property.
