Anyone tried Collaborative Law for their divorce?

|
I was just wondering if anyone out there has gone through a collaborative law process for their divorce and if it worked? This is apparently a newer, more "friendly" way of dealing with divorce in that the parties and their attornies agree NOT to go to court and fight things out. Instead they work together and with mediation specialists to come to agreements. Supposedly if they can't agree, their attornies have to be fired from the case and the process starts all over again- IN court. Sounds almost too good to be true.

a coworker of mine is in the process of divorce and they have done something similar. In Louisiana if you have kids involved you are required to go to mediation before you will be heard in court, unless their is a history of DV. They were able to agree on EVERYTHING down to the distance they were permitted to live from one another (15 miles).
In my opinion mediation works only IF you are close in terms before going in, are willing to negotiate and listen to each others points of view. But most importantly think of what is best for the children before thinking of what you want.
