Neither myself or my stbx can not afford to go to trial. What happens if we do not settle our issues before our trial date? Do we have to go to trial? |

Okay, I know this is going to sound like a smartass but what other option do you think you have? If you can't work out an agreement then the judge has to do it for you. If you can't afford it then I would suggest you consider your options. You either pay to go to trial or you settle out of court. Have you guys tried mediation? Not that it does much good if both parties are unwilling to compromise but if you are willing to compromise you might try mediation. Let me add that I was in your shoes. I didn't want to go to trial but my ex refused to even sit down with me to try to work out an agreement, if this is the case then just start making the arrangements to go to trial because there is nothing you can do to change their mind. |

Have you considered self-representation in pro per or pro se? Does your state require or permit mediation. There are a lot of possible alternatives? You might weant to consider a low cost or free consultation with an attorney or the use of a paralegal. It will all depend upon the laws of your state. |
