I got some very goods news today. I took all of the advice I was given here very seriously and one of you had suggested from the start that I try writing a letter to my local/state politicians, looking for help. Because after I tried turning for help through CSE in this matter, I was met with a lot of resistance from a caseworker there. The caseworker was very unpleasant with me, even to the point of downright rude and instead of getting help, all it did was get me even more upset after talking to her. This did not help matters or the situation at all, in fact only made matters worse. In my frustration, I took the advice from here to heart, figured that I had nothing to loose and sent a letter to my local Congresswoman and then also to the Governor of VA. I had not heard anything back yet, had not even expected too at this point, when today I got a call from a supervisor at CSE. The supervisor who called was extremely kind, caring, compassionate and wanted to see what she could do to help and ease my mind and answer any questions I still had. It seems the letter to the Governor's office was forwarded to her office, to be looked into, followed up on and taken care of. Even better, it seems after this CSE supervisor got my letter from the Governor's office, read it, a letter from CSE was immediately sent to my ex-h. In that letter it stated directly, from CSE, that he must submit his new employment information to them right away. The supervisor called today to let me know all of this and that my ex-h has now responded to them, with all of his information and a new garnishment order will now be submitted to his new employer, as soon as possible. Hip, hip hurray!!! I wanted to share the good news in all of this. It paid to be persistent and not give up! Thank you again everyone. I may not have ever done this, if not encouraged to. Hugs to all, Lori |

That is so wonderful. Isn't it great when being an advocate for yourself and your children and doing the right thing pays off? Sometimes it seems like the bad guy gets all the breaks. Here is to insurance info soon and the CS checks to be on time so you can keep moving ahead and take care of your children without the unnecessary drama and stress he seems to enjoy creating. |

Thank you Anne! Yes, it is nice when finally something works the way it is supposed to. How are you doing these days??? Lori |

That is wonderful news I am so glad someone was willing to do something to help you out. |

Me too! :-) It is a wonderful relief and huge weight off of my shoulders. I am very grateful! |

Hanging in there and dealing with each piece of bad news as it comes! My mom died on Memorial Day and the news with my son gets worse every doctor visit. This is his senior year and should be a happy time. Now he has had to start taking a drug every day, twice a day, that he will take the rest of his life or until a kidney transplant. He hates the idea because he knows that this is just the beginning of the long decline before the transplant. It breaks my heart. Thanks for asking. My granddaughter is wonderful and my son still has his same wonderful girlfriend, almost 2 years now so that helps him a lot. |

It is good to see government actually helping the people who really need it, and right things happen. Its refreshing to hear good news. |

I'm so sorry Anne! I know you had your battles with your sister and your mom at times, but regardless a parent can't ever be replaced. I know it has to be a very hard loss for you. I am sorry to hear about your son's health too. I had hoped beyond hope that he was doing better. You will both be in my prayers. Do you still have my e-mail address? If not, PM me and I will send it to you. Many hugs, Lori |
It was very refreshing. I wish I could deal with this supervisor from now on, if I should ever need help again. I'm sure the caseworker who I had problems with, isn't going to be very thrilled to talk to me again, after my letter. |
P.S. I'm sure my ex-h isn't very thrilled right now either... I wonder if he knows what brought about his getting this letter from CSE now. I'm hoping not, because if he doe know, he will more than likely find another way to retaliate. Hopefully he will just realize that CSE is on top of things (with a little help) and he needs to finally cut out all the crap. I hope so. That would be the most refreshing thing of all! |
Yes, I still have it. I will e-mail you soon or I would be glad to hear from you! |

Please e-mail me, I don't have your address anymore. Look forward to hearing from you! |

Okay, just e-mailed. |

...that you can write a letter to the Governors office, then CSE can send him a letter DEMANDING information that is is DIRECT violation of the COURT ORDER. See, he has 30 days, and the 30 days wasn't even CLOSE to being up yet, but SCREW the court order, you wanted the info NOW. So to show him that he has to follow the court order, you get CSE to IGNORE the order Proud of yourself? Maybe HE could write a letter, and have YOU do something that is not ordered? |
No information was given to me from CSE and I did not ask for any. The information was for CSE and only CSE. The garnishment order is to follow him where ever he goes. He's already not followed orders and provided information in the past. How many times is someone allowed to ignore court orders, before it catches up with them? I'm not going to argue this with you. You have your opinions and I have mine. When it comes to the welfare of my children, after dealing with all I have in the past 5 1/2 years, I do not feel guilty at all that he was forced to do the right thing. Because as it has been proven over and over, it is the only way he ever complies. |
...for something ELSe in the future, maybe we should just throw him in jail now, huh? Bottom line is that he was NOT in contempt, as he had NOT violated the court order. I do not CARE what happened in the past, it does not, from a legal standpoint, MATTER what has happened in the past. He has THIRTY DAYS to info you and CSE. The THIRTY DAYS had not expired, yet CSE forced him to provide it now. I wonder if you would feel so good if a government organization made YOU do something you didn't have to, per your COURT order? "I do not feel guilty at all that he was forced to do the right thing." Nope, break the court order if it benefits YOU, right? The HELL with the court order as long as YOU get what YOU want, right? Slippery slope to start down, and one I feel that you would NOT like if you were on the recieving end. I mean, you MIGHT violate the court order in the future, we just don't know, so how about you pay him about $5,000 for legal fees, and have a judge sentence you to 3 weeks in jail. You haven't DONE anything, but you MIGHT, so lets punish you FIRST, okay? No? I didn't THINK so... |

I am not going to have anymore battle of the brains with you, when you are obvioulsy an unarmed opponent... |

To think that past behavior is no indication of what the future holds is ridiculous. Just like Charlie Brown believe time and time again that Lucy was going to hold the ball for him to kick it and time and time again the evil biatch Lucy would pull the ball away and poor stupid Charlie Brown would fall flat on his butt. There's nothing wrong with using what you know about somebody's known history to mitigate your risk of getting screwed by them. In doing so, Ladybug has helped, although not guaranteed, to ensure that her ex will follow through for once the way he was supposed to. Taking matters into our own hands to make sure things get done the right way is a good thing and should be encouraged. |

I am going to call BULLS!@T. On the 13th of October, you stated that you were going to try the suggestion of writing to a local politician. Today is the 18th of October. Do you expect me to believe that you mailed a letter on the 13th (A Friday), and it went to the Governors office, was processed through their mail service, was read, followed up on, sent to CSE, they sent a letter to HIM, and HE responded in FIVE DAYS?? Nope, not gonna believe it. I have MUCH experience dealing with CSE, and it takes them longer than 5 days to take a crap. If you mailed in on the EIGTH, when you posted FIRST about this, I doubt it would have gotten taken care of that fast. We are looking at a MINIMUM of 4-5 days for DELIVERY ALONE from your house to the Governor, and from the Governor to CSE. Add it 2-3 days from CSE to his house, that accounts for EIGHT of the POSSIBLE 10 days, using the LONG figure of 10 days. You mean to tell me that the Governor and CSE was able to process the noncompliance letter is TWO days? Nope, NEVER, NOT POSSIBLE. Sorry, gotta call BS on this one. |

You are so logical. Can I send my teenage son to you for lessons!!! I agree with you. The state here is notorious for taking CS money that is garnished and then sitting on it for 2-3 weeks before they disburse it. If a private company did that they would be in trouble for breaching their fiduciary duty. Once when the money had been withheld from my ex's check on the first and I could tell by the website that the SDU had not disbursed it by the 10th, I sent an e-mail to the attorney general himself and to our local senator's office to complain. I told them if this situation continued I would go to 7 on Your Side and publicize it because I happen to know that the CS withheld from that particular payroll is $800,000 per month. That is a lot of money that belongs to other people for them to be sitting on. And it just irritates me no end that they can electronically deposit money, take money back, but then just sit on that much money belonging to other people. For some that could mean no food or rent. For me it just makes me really mad--I guess because I know two state employees who had so little to do at their job that they had so much time for an affair at work. And I admit it!!! I never even give them his name though---I am not trying to cause a problem for him as it is not his fault. I had calls that day from the AG's office and the senator went to the accounting office for DSHS and sat there until they disbursed the $800,000 to the SDU for distribution. It was an election year, I think, but Austin is known to be a city of causes. People like to make dramatic statements like that.In a state where the AG advertises he is such an advocate for collecting CS and taking care of kids, they did not want that going on 7 on Your Side. Think how that sounds--on the first of the month we take $800,000 out of NCP's checks, but we don't get in any hurry to get it to the people it belongs to--even though there is a special office we created that does only that. Doesn't hurt that I live in the State Capitol either! The senator's office had already begun receiving calls as this is a recurrent problem--he didn't go just because I called. The issue is that is only the money from one state agency. If you consider the amount withheld from payroll from all state agencies, I am sure the number would be staggering. Once they said it because the person at DSHS who "does that" was on vacation...good grief. In my state it is easy to directly contact public officials by e-mail. Their e-mail address is always firstname.lastname@dshs (or whatever the agency is).state.tx.us That is so convenient--you don't have to go through people. |
For all of your "experience", you've obviously never heard of e-mail and fax machines. Additionally, I don't give a rat's a$$ what you believe! I know the truth and that's all that matters to me... |
Well, as I read your post you said letter. Obviously you wrote a letter but you e-mailed it or faxed it. That does make a difference. |
Thank you, that was a very good analogy! The only thing I can think anymore, is that this very thing has happened to gr8Dad. Either he has not complied with orders in the past or someone has figured a way to protect themselves against him too, which he didn't like. Because he's taken this whole thing way too personally and it all obviously burns his butt for some reason. It makes no difference to him that my ex-h has a long and distinguished history of contempt and I have none. He isn't interested in the difference between right and wrong here. He's just defending a man, just because he is a man. Thank goodness no one else has been so small and narrow minded. No one else has given me any crap about all of this, except him, so it has to be personal. His arguements don't even make any sense. Everything is my fault and it must be me who is the trouble-maker? W-h-a-t-e-v-e-r! |
Yes, I am sorry for not clarifying. I didn't realize it even made a difference. I composed a letter and e-mailed it through the Governor's website. I don't know how the rest of the equation took place, except that my letter was forwarded to the CSE supervisor. She then called me, regarding my letter and wanted to answer any questions or concerns I had. She then let me know that she had contacted my ex-h and he had just faxed the requested information back into CSE yesterday. |
Well, that explains the speedy response! Well, you know, some people need all the "t's" crossed and the "i's" dotted and punctuation and grammar to be correct. Nevertheless, good for you!!! |
I'm sorry, I didn't realize any of my grammar had been incorrect. I thought I had been clear and understandable. |
I didn't mean you - I was just making a blanket statement. |

E-mail is a fantastic thing. I sent a letter to the Governor because I was PO'ed about the cost of adult immunizations and the fact that Medicaid doesn't cover them. I received a snail-mail response from the public health department in about a week. |
Does the health department offer them on a sliding scale? I have been told that the health departments here will give you any immunization for $5 if you make less than about $35K per year...if you want to go sit and wait. And then $15 each if you have health insurance or make more than that. E-mail is wonderful because you can get what you want directly to the person you want to get it--unlike snail mail that can be hijacked along the way. |
This was for the Hep B series....at $125 a pop....and that IS at the Health Department. They cover some things, like Tetanus for $5.....but every thing else is high. They'll cover all the medical care if you get Hep B...but they won't immunize people against it? That's just nuts. |
It is nuts. But the odd thing is that our Blue Cross-Blue Shield wouldn't pay for the Hep B shots when my kids got them so my kids' pediatrician told me to take them to the health department and we could get them for $15 each. So we did. But that was back in 1998. They may not do that now at all. Yeah that makes about as much sense as insurances/medicaid that won't pay for birth control pills but have to pay thousands for a birth. Explain that! |
Rebecca, Do you need the immunization for a work related reason? I had to have the series several years ago, while I was working at a hospital and thankfully the hospital covered the cost for me. When I entered nursing school, I had a series of immunizations and lab tests that were mandatory. Since my divorce, I have not had any health insurance and I had to pay for all of these out of pocket. I was able to go to the health department for some things. For Hep. B, I had a titer drawn, to prove I'd already had the immunizations. Ironically, the titer was also expensive, but necessary to show I was immunized. Sometimes, do you ever feel like things get you coming and going? I know I do...it doesn't make sense. Lori |

This is a major election year. Right wrong or indifferent, government tends to work more quickly to address constituent/citizen concerns shortly before general elections. If you would care to argue that point with me or chalk it up as BS, in all fairness I have to warn you that I work in legislation and politics for a state and have done so for the better part of two decades. I've been through a lot of administrations and a lot of elections. |
When I started the nursing program....about forever ago, now....there were several students who had Medicaid as their insurance provider. It stunk for them, because the start-up costs for school were HUGE. Then I had a client that wanted a job at the hospital, but the hospital only reimbursed. When you have nothing, $125 is a lot of money to let go of...even for a short time. |
The start up costs were very expensive. By the time I had the required physical, immunizations and lab work, plus uniforms, CPR course and other necessary, required equipment, it was a very rough couple of months, trying to recover. It's a shame none of it can be paid for with grant or loan money, but it can't, because that isn't dispersed until the middle of the following semester. I will be very thankful when I am finally working as an RN, have insurance and benefits again. Even now, I have to buy any prescription I need at full cost. I don't go to the doctor ever, unless an emergency. I've resorted to taking whatever long term prescriptions I may need, every other day, just to stretch things as far as I can. You do what you have to do...just to survive. You pray daily you don't have any kind of accident or nothing catastropic ever occurs, until you're insured again. |
