She's not going to feel very lucky after she realizes how much child support and alimony you will be paying. In fact, if I were first wife (and I am glad I am not), I wouldn't ever remarry. For as long as the two of you have been married, she's looking at a minimum of 10 years of alimony.

You really have a lousy lawyer.
You are looking at at least TEN years.

Re: 5 years....

I heard that in NY even if your spouse has a full time job, you have to pay alimony until either they drop dead or they remarry.
My mothers friend has a friend that lives in NY and his x wife is a college professor. He is paying alimony and is required to do so until she dies or remarries. She has a full time job, makes good money and STILL GETS ALIMONY. Isn't that nice.
Well anyway congratulations to you. Hope you two will be very happy together.

Re: 5 years....

yeah, what law says that in ny? alimony is until she becomes self supporting...the day she gets a job, alimony ends...5yrs is plenty of time in ny to become self supporting, dont matter how long you been married.

Maybe the college professors husband is brain dead and doesnt realize he doesnt have to keep paying alimony!

Re: 5 years....

unless I see a case law that says she'll get alimony for MORE than 5 yrs, then I'll believe it.
