How does a woman with no income proceed in a divorce when her husband controls all the money and it is known that he will not go through it amicably?
She is NY, and needs to kno whow to proceed. Any advice would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

She calls around her local area to find 2 or 3 attornies that will provide free consultations. She details on paper everything that she knows about the finances and property involved, her goals where custody and property distribution are concerned, and any reasons or concerns about the divorce itself, and shares them with the attorney.
From the advice the attorney provides, which may or may not include having the legal fees paid for by the spouse being divorced, she can take the next appropriate steps.

She can also check with the local Legal Aid Society to see if she would qualify for free or reduced legal assistance.

There are always Divorce Attorney's that will engage you for "future" (nothing down)fees. They will most likely want to substanciate your husbands income through the court right away, then he really has no out except to comply. If he trys to hide income or assets, he could really get it, Judges are not nice about spouses that try that.
Get a good one from any referrals you can find, get the free session most offer and find out where the "at risk" firms are.

It is his money. Why do you think YOU should get any of it ? Get a job.

Yregna, no one said she was asking for any of it. She needs help getting through the divorce. IF she is enititled to alimony, nothing degrading you have to say will change that.

Except new posters who are getting hit by his ignorant brand of trolling. Especially those vulnerable on the D&V boards. I bypassed the notify button this time and just emailed DSource directly, with a copy of one of his more obnoxious trollings.
