My son will more than likely be facing a lengthy jail sentence for his 4th DUI. He was never marrried to my 2 year old grandaughter's mother & he presently has visitation rights. My son lives with me & I have been involved in my grandaughter's life since the beginning. Her mother doesn't like me & am wondering what steps I'll need to take to keep seeing my grandaughter once he is in jail.

My bet is that unless you work out something with Mom, you aren't really going to be able to do too much of anything. Your time is pretty much stuck with when your son sees your Granddaughter. Grandparents really don't get rights like that.
Sometimes it pays to be kind to the parents. Even if we don't like them a lot. It's always a wise investment for the kids :)

I'd be really nice and sell it in a way that benefits HER. If SHE ever needs a break, wants to take a trip, etc... then you'd be MORE than happy to help out. Tell her to feel free to call you anytime if she ever needs anything, etc...

If I were you, I'd work really hard on making a relationship work with the Mom of that Grandchild :)

Tabby.......as others have said, I think your only hope is being really nice to your grandchild's birth mom. Do you live somewhat close by ? I like Mo9's idea to offer free babysitting, etc.
