Since I graduated this year and am finally earning a decent income, I am planning special family vacation for next spring break. The kids and I have been on the net, trying to find out where we wanted to go for vacation. We finally decided to take a Disney cruise. Even though the cruise won't happen for almost another year, the kids can't contain their excitement. My SD called her mom to share her excitement with her. You guys will never believe what mama's response was. This is the funny part....
She said the only way she would let her kids go on a cruise with us is if we paid for her to go as well. Yeah, right! Not a chance, sista! I just (politely) told her I was sorry her kids were going to miss out.

Did you really tell her that her kids couldn't go? Like...in front of them?

Ok, let me get this straight. You told the SD about the cruise and let her get all excited about it, before discussing it with BM. Shouldn't you have called BM first, since you will need her written permission to remove her from the country? That way, if she said "no" you could protect the SD from such a disappointment?
You set that little girl up for a broken heart.
I don't understand some of you SMs!!! What are you trying to do to these kids!! We all know that when considering such a trip, it needs to be discussed with the PARENTS FIRST, once they are in agreement, then the kids told the good news. Otherwise, you are setting these kids up for heart-break over and over again.
Sometimes I think that's what you want...you want the skids to hate their BMs or BDs so you will look better in their eyes. It's not fair to the kids.

..and if this was a post from a BM saying that this is what Daddy had said, you'd be all over it stating "How could a father want to deprive their child of such a great adventure!" Yup yup yup!

the same as Rebecca said...did she tell her that infront of the kids?
On a more experienced note, in Canada, judges rarely refuse petitions for kids vacations. If they have to go to court, they'll likely be able to take the kids. It would take a pretty major concern to stop the vacation.

Yup. It may still be that the BM is like ours and would tell the kids all on her own...about the trip AND the plan to not allow it.
