I always book hotels online for my boss. Never have a problem - just print the confirmation page and be sure to have the confirmation number onhand when you arrive.

Bottom line, there is NO standard, do some research, and you will see that. You won't ADMIT it, but that is a FACT.

Like a few others posted, sometimes calling the hotel works better. I know here at the one I work at it is cheaper for us to give the customer the room quoted online instead of them booking it online because we have to pay a travel agent fee on top of the cheap rate the customer was given. Not worth it in my book.
