If your SD was 18, I don't see how you can force the issue to be BM's responsibility. The Dr.'s office doesn't care about court orders, they just want the money.

We did because in NYS the responsibility is that of the parent's until the age of 21. Just as now we receive CS, we pay for medical bills and BM (technically) has to reimburse us her share. Although we have never asked for it.
H told her there was a court order when SD was sick that makes BM responsible. So BM paid that. Now the last one is the day (supposedly) that Bm's custody was terminated- that would make us responsible.

I'd say it's terminated.. meaning she doesn't owe. The 19th would be the last day of "owing". That's how I read it. Meaning it terminates that date, nothing is owed FOR that date. How can you owe something on an end date? It's like, say a program, if your access expires 1/1, you don't get to log on 1/1, it's terminated. As of 12:01am that date? There is no obligation.

That's why I read it too. Just was clarifying since the paperwork wasn't actually filed in the courts until the following month, so yes it was prorated back. We received the credit. The CS isn't the concern, just whether BM still had custody on the 20th and whether any bills were her responsibility. Seems as though not, which is what I figured. Next time in town, we will have to have SD run in and grab a copy of her medical records. I would like to see if the date was changed since she was told it was the 2nd and not the 20th the first time around.

I look at it like insurance. When we cancel someone we cancel last day of the month. So 12/31/11 at 11:59pm is the last minute it is in force (and we call that a term date). If it says terminated 4/20/11 then I'd say at 11:59pm that is the last minute it is in force as well.

It's the "terminated effective" makes me wonder if it means terminated on that day and the last day owing would have been the 19th.
I might need to ask Maury.
