I agree.
I'd be curious what the teacher would have to say about the kid struggling with the class missing an entire week before a major test.
I can't imagine he/she'd be keen on the idea.
And sorry - but a wedding out of town for an entire week on my time, when my kid is struggling in school, is just not that important.

DD is in 10th grade. She takes off a week in October and 3 days in March for national riding competitions (thank goodness most of the US sanctioned shows are in the summer). The condition is ALL her work is turned in and she's getting mostly all A's... If she were struggling, there's no way I could justify taking her out of school. None at all. And for a wedding? Uhh, don't think so.

So what did the teacher say?

Well the teacher told my ex husband it would be fine, as long as she took all this extra work with her. I told my ex I did not agree with it at all, and that the answer was no. I put it in writing that I did not agree, he did not go through any formal court permission process, and it was on my parenting time.
Of course, he bought the tickets anyway. His response? "I'll make sure to owe you the days you'll be missing. Just let me know when you want your extra days with daughter"
I was fuming. But, he knows I am only working 1 day a week right now to finish my last semester of grad school (graduate in May) and that I don't have any money to pursue this in court. It just makes me cry that he cares more about a vacation than his child's education.
To put icing on the cake, they took a practice math FCAT test last week. My daughter missed 11 out of 19!!!! I spend every day I have with her tutoring, etc. I am at a loss for words =(
