Being Christian is no more offensive than not being Christian. You are doing a good thing. Your reason is to help the kids, and you are willing to do that either way. making a difference is the difference.

"They do not HAVE to use the somewhat Christian based library"
So this jail has MULTIPLE libraries? and how do you get "somewhat christian based", it is being STARTING by a Christian with the INTENT of making it up with MAJORITY Christian material.
"Why is it when someone shares the word of God you always imply that it is being forced upon the individual?"
True, I mean its not like these folks are locked up and ONLY have access to certain things, oh, wait, yes it IS.
"If you have some great suggestions for Christian literature. movies, and music you should share them."
And THIS is what pisses people off. Like CHRISTIANS have the lock on MORAL and ETHICAL behavior. As though a NON Christian is simply INCAPABLE of suggesting something EFFECTIVE for rehabilitating children.
Of course, the CHRISTIAN programs are SO effective, lets "Pray the gay away" and "Instead of robbing a store, you can play basketball at church..."

Of course they are, and Cassie already said she is more than open to that, and that the program is voluntary. Their choices are limnited becauseof their actions. They do not have to particpate, and Christian programs do not have the lock on any moral or ethical behavior, just like any other religion or atheists. There is not one fits all answer, but she is offering one that may work, and it is not the only one. The truth is that whatever proram these kids had before, chistian, atheist, good parents, bad parents, bad community, good community, well that did nto work, so offering them something, that they can voluntarily participate in has to be a bad thing, just because it is Christian. It is just one piece of the puzzle.

It was the ATTITUDE of the original post, and I was not the only one who noticed it, RWS said something as well. So if she is coming across like that to a board of people who KNOW here, how do you think it will come across to complete strangers?
BTW< not on your post, but a general comment, the movie "Fireproof" had to be one of the STUPIDEST MYSANDRIC movies I have ever seen. And anyone who likes it, REVERSE the genders and see if you still like it. That a woman can FLIRT, and come RIGHT to the edge of cheating, and somehow its her WORKING SPOUSES fault that she DID IT, and he has to give up something HE was working for, so SHE could have something is RIDICULOUS.

How you took it is how you took it. If I was looking for a source of Atheistic books, you would be the one, Buddhism, RWS would be the one. I just assumed most people would look to those who follow a topic for ideas on that topic.

But WHY Christian? You have a PUBLIC jail, and are starting a library for younger offenders to visit, what makes you think ANY of them would be interested in ONLY Christian reading/viewing?

Because she is one, that is how she is going to approach it, and as she said, it is not the only approach. The program is voluntary. I do not think all of them will be interested in only Christian material, and she didn't either, since she did ask for other positive message type material. She is doing something to help, in a way she believes will help. Maybe she is creating a niche that did not exist, and may help those who want to try it. I do not think there are zero programs now to help, and this will be the only option, I think she is only adding to the existing programs, offering them a choice. The goal is to help, and that is what she is trying to do, and she is doing it in a way she thinks will work, and she is familiar with. If you were to start a familiar program, I would expect the material to be more in line with your beliefs, and you would use what you are familiar with. I would also think if you asked for suggestions, you would direct the question towards those who you think are familiar with your beliefs.

"Because she is one, that is how she is going to approach it"
And THERE lies the problem with a lot of Christians. THEY are into something, so they think EVERYONE must be into it. And when everyone isn't into it, some of them get upset.

I agree, but we are only talking about a voluntary program that Cassie is trying to start up, and is not upset about at all, in fact, she sounds very enthusiastic about helping the kids. If she was upset about the ones not particpating, that would be one thing, but I just see an enthusiasm for those that choose to participate. Actually I think she went the opposite way on her question, she asked for suggestions from Christians, pretty much saying she understands not everyone is into it. You are right, there is a problem when Christians get upset about others who believe differently, I just did not see that here.

The Left Behind series.
My kids loved the movies (especially my 16 yr old sd and her friends).
