Just thought I would see if we could keep the conversation going on a pleasant level.
Without going into too much detail, I was wondering what everyone else has planned for the summer.
We still haven't decided if are going to travel anywhere this summer. Best part of that is I live within 2 hours or less to some of the best beaches around. I am kind of thinking I would like to sink the money we would spend traveling into the house instead this year. No major remodel, although I do have those plans in the back of my mind :). Just simple things like new shelving in the closets, making them more user friendly and organized. Painting the master bath and the half bath.
I would love to paint my bedroom. I have some really fun black and white prints I have had framed. One is an I Love Lucy poster and the other is a John Lennon drawing. I would love to continue the black and white motif in my bedroom, with some red accents.
Right now I am my Martha Steward mode. This past weekend I had a big cupcake order to fill. That is done and was a hig hit. I am glad that is behind me, I was really sweating that one. I used all fresh fruit to flavor them. They came out really good.
Today I am making paper flowers, lol. Remember the ones you make with tissue paper? Those are them. I thought it would be fun to have them ready for the grand-girls when they get back from their moms. It has been fun and relaxing to make these today. I want to find a fun vase to put them in. I might head out to the flea market this weekend.

It sounds like you're craving some therapeutic puttering time around home, not a traveling vacation which can leave you less rested.
I'm now on summer break since mid-May (teaching summer classes in July), and I've made some Christmas ornaments, painted a couple of birdhouses, am crocheting edging around a fleece blanket. Next, I'm going to knit an afghan like the one my mother made years ago. Then I plan to sew some dresses and skirts to teach in, sort of copying those in my Boden catalog. I also have a novel waiting for me: The Language of Flowers, about a girl who spent her childhood in foster homes.
Not sure I'll get all that done! I prefer to do constructive things, rather than spend tons of money I don't have.
ETA: I forgot to include the gardening, trying new recipes, spending time with my wee grandchildren and volunteering every Sat. at the soup kitchen.

Why not do both...or rather, do half of each? If say you have 8 days and a $1,000...take 4 days and $500 to do something for the house and 4 days and $500 to kick back and relax. In fact, I would start my time off with a couple of days...come home and do some stuff around the house and then end with a couple of days off.

I had a ton of plans....and then? Graduation happened...
Sigh..
The twins graduated this year and it was EXPENSIVE! LOL...
I had previously sworn that the week they graduated, I was taking off...anywhere...with NO kids...
Meh...that didn't work out...but its all good...We're hoping to take a few short weekend trips this summer and just relax and get back to normal...the last several months have been such a whirlwind...

I have a family reunion this month with my side and a family reunion with H's side in July.
A FL vacation planned for the end of the month- fortunate enough to splurge and take my brother, his wife and their 1 yr. old son with us- while my kids are in the Caribbean on a mission trip building and painting houses, making fences, feeding and clothing children in orphanages.
We have been truly blessed this Summer. My kids both ended the school semester with a 4.0 and have yet to receive their complete grades for the entire year. DD should be over a 4.0 and DS should be a 3.75. Son started Vyvanse this past semester for A.D.D. (not AHDH) and it has been wonderful!
So ready for summer!!

Not really doing much this summer. Def. no big vacation plans (money is a little tight right now...but I did just start a new part time job working from home, so that will help alot). We will do our annual camping trips this summer, but it will be weird since SD17 won't be there for the first one(she will be in Colorado for a month), and my SS's won't be there either (oldest SS turns 21 in a few days!! Wow). We've always had at least 2 of my skids with us when we went camping. Anyway...that's about it. I won a trip to Vegas last month (so much fun)...so unless I win another trip, we plan on staying pretty close to home for the rest of the year.

Neither is college ready right now...Both took vocational programs and are gainfully employed...at least for the moment...LOL...
They are good boys...not perfect...but good...I had to push, pull, prod and beg, just to get them to the finish line...they're just not ready for college yet...
But they seem to be okay with that...they're making adult wages and that has its benefits for them...its more money than they've ever seen in their lives that was theirs..to do with as they wanted...
We still have alot of lessons to learn..but they're off to a good start...
I'm very proud of them...

I spent my vacation money moving to a new state this year.
However, since I always choose to go to one beach or another, I now have a bunch within an hour of me -- so I can go and sit by the ocean any time I'd like. Did that yesterday....;o)
Anyone that wants to visit, get in touch!

Beach 5 minutes away. We might do some local camping.
My sil is on hospice, so we are staying close to home os we'll be available when they need help.

We prefer our big vacations to be in the winter so we can go someplace warm!!! I am hoping to fly to Mississippi to see my dad this summer, definitely on my list of to do's. I have weddings in September in Vegas and October in Texas. A convention in June in Salt Lake City.....not enough days in the year.
The ocean sounds awesome.....

I plan to spend most of the summer putzing around the house with the occasional trip down to the beach. I'm researching the possibility of turning something I do for fun into a home-based business. If it pans out I'll spend a lot of my free-time getting it off the ground.

I plan to make home improvements - rip out the carpet and replace with slate and paint interior of house and add some wainscoating.
I also am attending a Blues Festival that will have two really great blues players/singers (amongst others) in attendance - totally stoked. I'll take my son to see my parents and my grandmother who will be 94 this year in August and then school starts for me again in August.
I have family coming in from out of state which will be great to spend time with them.

"We prefer our big vacations to be in the winter so we can go someplace warm!!!"
We are moving in this direction...plus..you don't necessarily have all the "touristy" stuff in the winter months...things are a little cheaper and you get more for your money...
DH RARELY gets time off in the summer...even though he's been at his job 14 years, he still doesn't have enough seniority to get time off in the summer...We can manage a long weekend, but to take any time off in the summer will be nearly impossible for another couple of years...

Let's see. In 8 days I'm off for 15 in a row. Since my wife will be on project in Buffalo during that stretch, and for the most part, upstate new york is about as boring as it gets, I'm going to take a road trip down to Louisiana, then cut over to Texas and hit Houston, Austin and Dallas, and then speed through Oklahoma as quickly as possible. Then I'm off for another 15 starting the last week of August. We haven't decided where to head for that trip, but most likely up to Seattle to see my SIL then on to Victoria and Vancouver for a week or so.
In betweeen, I'll find some illegal immigrants to do some landscaping in the backyard.

I don't really have summer plans. Sounds like everyone will have some fun stories to share when they return. We do a week at the beach every summer, I hope to do that for years and years.
Those who are so close to the beach you can smell it I am jealous! I could live there, just listening to the waves and watching the water.

That could work. Actually that is what I meant by living so close to the beach.
Truth is, I can walk to the gulf from where I live. It is literally at the end of my street. What I meant by driving to the beaches was, the other beaches I consider vacation beaches, Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, Perdido Key, Pensacola and so on. Why I live at the beach then drive to a different beach for vacation is still a mystery to me. Then again, everyone here does the same thing. Every year I run into co-workers all summer long at different beaches.
I forgot about recipes. I do have some new recipes I want to try out.
Gardening too. So far the gardens are doing great. The problem is, it is getting so hot so early that I need to become the midnight gardener.
