Yes, he did get out of his car after, according to his own reenactment, the dispatch person asked him to give them directions. Zimmerman, in his reenactment, said, "I thought to get out and look for a street sign, so I got out of the car and started walking . . . I was still on the phone with non-emergency and because I didn't see a street sign here but I knew if I went straight through I could give that. That's [name of street] and I could give him an address..."
