as i understand it, in NYS, my STBXH will not have to pay income tax on my support but i will???? it seems like the whole thing will have to go to the IRS, then. i'm confused.

If you have other employment, the amount may bump you up into another tax bracket and then you would not be getting as much useable income as you think. But if it is your sole source of income, sad to say, but you will probably be in a low enough bracket to make the tax liablity not as great as you think.
You didn't specifiy if you were talking about Child Support or Spousal Support. I just want to make it clear that you would only have to pay income taxes on Spousal Support. Child Support is a non-taxable income source for the receiver.
