I know this seems petty in the grand scheme of things but I just need to vent. I'm on another biz trip and its turned into the trip from hell.
I had a flight from Columbia thru Chicago to Rochester MN. Flt out of Columbia was delayd, but made it to Chicago. Flt from Chi to Rochester was cancelled and I was booked on the next one. That one was cancelled too, and the only other option was to fly to Minneapolis and drive to Rochester.
Ok -- made it, survived, what can you do????
Coming home I get to the terminal in Rochester 2 hrs early. Fell asleep in the terminal but made final boarding, only to sit on the runway from an hour due to a weather delay in Chicago. Get to Chicago late, missed connector home. Got rebooked, it cancelled, and since there was only one more flt it was oversold. So guess who's stuck in Chicago overnite?
No car, no extra socks, exhausted and wanting to go home. The kicker is I haven't had a slurpee in 4 yrs (since there are no 7-11's in SC) and there's one just a bit up the road. I'm too dang tired and its too cold to go get it.
Talk about Murphy's Law. I think the Travel Gods are pissed at me for something. This is the 3rd trip since September that I've had problems with.
Okay - done whining now.
On a side note, xSO emailed me last nite to tell fill me in on things and to tell me he "Kind of misses" me. He wants to do dinner this weekend, and even said it would be just the two of us. I'm torn between being happy and being leery.....
Oh and I found out my best friend from high school died back in 2004. I found out thru the internet but I can't find an obit or details.
Okay, I'm done running off at the keyboard now. I hope everyone out there is having a better week than I am. :D

Renee,
Woah, what a nightmarish travel experience! I hate flying and mostly take the train. In fact I've taken trains all the way from Boston (I live in Maine) to Portland, Oregon and Seattle, WA. In between, there was a layover in Chicago, which has a wonderful lounge with free wi-fi, coffee, snacks, water, etc.
Anyway, the train goes from Chicago to different areas in Minnesota, etc. So if this ever happens again, you might want to try taking the train from Chicago to Minnesota. Very nice way to go; good food; pretty cheap; nice scenary; and very relaxing!
When I have to fly, I try and get non-stop direct flights as much as possible for the very reasons you mentioned. I know that's not always possible and is often more expensive, but man I think it's worth it.
In any case, sorry you had such a horrendous time traveling. I'd say you definitely deserve to vent!
Re: dinner invite from X-SO? Are you going to accept? What do you think it's about?
Sorry to hear about your best HS friend passing on. It's never easy to learn something like that...

Renee, I can relate.
I used to fly Delta all the time because it's more convenient out of Ft Lauderdale which is closer to my home but 3 outta 4 trips through Atlanta were delayed at best. So I finally after many years said enough is enough. I switched to Miami airport where AA has a hub. On Tuesday morning my flight to Chicago was delayed 2 hours. On Wednesday night my flight from Chicago to Raleigh was delayed 3.5 hours which put me in my hotel room at 4am Thursday morning. I have had a travel week from hell myself so I can totally empathize.
Flying sucks. I'm going to get my own private pilots license. That's my goal for next year. I need a hobby anyways.

I used to fly out of FTL when I lived in Coral Springs about 10 yrs ago. I didn't really have too much of a problem with FTL, but I avoided MIA like the plague. Atlanta is okay, as long as its not winter, because if its snowing the amount of traffic thru there will have you sitting on the runway for hours. And I'm sorry, but there is nothing comforting about getting de-iced multiple times. Or driving out to the middle of the field to catch a plane like at Dulles. I wonder if they ever fixed that setup.
O'Hare and Cincinatti are the worst for me - I always end up with some sort of delay. Plus walking from one terminal to the other sucks rocks.
No more plane rides for me for at least 6 mos. My company wants me to attend a meeting, they can bring the damn thing to me. ;D
