Question for you RWS...How would an IP address help "spot" posters that are not here for advise or help? As you know, I was stalked by a poster a few years back from my IP, but how does that help in identifying "trolls"..

What is an IP? And what is a "troll"? And why hasnt anyone answered my post on new relationships?

Run, you do know how easy it is to circumvent IP's don't you? All you have to do is find a public proxy server list, and then use that in browser connectiosn settings and that is the IP that will appear.

I don't think it makes any difference. Some people will troll...with or without IP's displayed. Proxy servers are a dime a dozen.

--------> Perhaps but I doubt most of the posters who come on here would do that, even when the IPs were posted some posters didn't even realize what they were. Quite recently a poster came on with different logins responding to herself but the IP gave her away.

The newcomers may be showing up because alot of shaky relationships seem to blow up at the holidays, and maybe because a lot of people received shiny new computers for the holidays. I remember wayyyyy back in the early days when I used aosmell. After Xmas you'd get all the little kiddies coming on and acting older and talking trash.... what a pita.
It is easier to spot the trolls with the ip addresses; at least the ones that don't have any clue on how to disguise themselves. But unfortunately there really is no fool proof way to avoid them - at least until somebody invents an internet bullshyt meter.

IP: Your computers address on the internet. Google it for more info. Troll: Is someone who comes on and lies, can't keep their stories straight, and intentionally starts crap on a board. Your Post: I haven't seen it, but patience is a virtue. The regulars post all times of day and nite.

Who cares?!?! Really! Read a post, respond if you want, move on if you don't. It's a free board...anyone can come here..."Legit" or not. Trolls come and go. Sometimes we are suckered in, sometimes is clear from the start.
With some of the threats that have been made against myself and others, I'm thankful they've removed a way of tracking people. It's a dangerous world out there and I'd rather be safer than having a way of figuring out who people are. I really don't care who they are. Trolls get bored and move on soon enough.
