At one time it was illegal in EVERY state for adult lovers to live together without being married. Today, on the other hand, just 6 states (Mississippi, Virginia, West Virginia, Florida, North Dakota, and Michigan) still criminalize cohabitation by opposite-sex couples, although they are generally not enforced.
I know that the ACLU had a lawsuit pending before the Michigan Supreme Court back in December '05 on behalf of a father who was being denied Parenting Time because he was "cohabitating". If girlfriend was forced to sleep elsewhere when the had the kids.

I believe this was something else but I could be wrong - I only heard a bit of it before I had to come in to work - just that they were discussing this being a life sentence.
It appearing was an old law with a new twist given to it by the Michigan Supreme Court.

Only in my State!!!!!!
What is funny about it though...is that the Attorney General who pushed for this had to admit, that he his self, was involved in a affair. So dont really see this going anywhere. KWIM

Well that explains why I couldn't find it...it's NOT about "cohabitation", but "adultery".

Well, like I said I only heard a short part of it before I had to head into work.
Don't think it is going any where either - but if I lived in Michigan, I sure wouldn't want to take a chance.

In the link that Buckeye posted, close to the top, but it made headlines here back in late 05 about his affair, due to the fact that he is sooooooooo against divorce and for family values.

ahhh.....
The wonderful ethics of Michigan politicians...I remember them well.
Say one thing, do another, get caught, blame the media, hide for awhile, then come back with some 'do-gooder' social project.
Megan, wasn't it Coleman Young perfected that little philosophy?

I remember his funeral. I was working in ODC downtown and we watched the funeral procession down Woodward.
I remember thinking how amazing it was that once he died he turned into such a Saint in the media, but when he was alive they picked him apart. Considering the "motor city" rep went away in favor of the "murder city", poverty went thru the roof and city services sucked wind, I'll never understand how he became so revered in the city. What did he actually DO that helped, other than repaint the park signs after he had his name put on them?

Here's another fine example of Michigan professional decorum - this time not the politicians, but the judges who enforce the laws the politicians write.

Your guess is as good as mine.
All I remember is the corruption, Detroit going from the 5th largest city to the 10th, the F.B.I bugging his house, and poverty. But he was the 1st black mayor of Detroit and he had been a State Senator, so I guess that does say something.
It really is amazing how the media hounded him while alive, and then praised him after his death...as they do with many politicians.

It doesn't just happen with politicians - many a family member becomes a saint after death!!!
