An extension of the employer paying theory... [Re: Gecko]
      #195536 - 02/04/07 05:19 PM

First though, you said: "I don't know of any OTHER "jobs" that allow you to take naps or allow you to your "share" of homekeeping while "working" or do to do "personal" things on "company" time."

I don't know of any OTHER "jobs" that require you to be on call 24/7 without vacations for years either. While SAHM, you may be able to nap and do personal things, but you also must be back on the clock at 6:00 for dinner, and at 7:00 for bath time, again at 9:00 for bedtime, and at 2:00 a.m. to calm a nightmare. Just to get up at 7:00 a.m. when the first one crawls up into bed with you or comes screaming for breakfast or cartoons.

So if we're going to look at it as real life, look at all of it. No job allows you to do the naps, but no job also works you at any and all hours like that one.

But on the employer/paycheck discussion, you said that it doesn't mean you're not entitled to a pension/alimony. I've said that before. But something else you said about employers caused me to focus on a different aspect of this...

If you lose your job through no fault of your own, you continue to get a paycheck in the form of Worker's Compensation. Maybe marriage should be the same. It would prevent an SAHM from cheating or causing the marital breakdown and getting paid, yet would also insure a safety net for the SAHM who did THEIR duty and got cheated on or walked out on through no fault of their own.

---> You're confusing being a SAHP with being a parent.

Nope. I've seldom, if at all, heard of a parent working 40+ hours and getting up in the middle of the night if their spouse is an SAHP. It's the SAHP who does that, because they may be able to sleep a bit tomorrow, while the WOHP can't nap while on the job...as you pointed out.
