Miranda, Do you think we have a right to be concerned? Thank you for the cradle cap info. I printed it and my hubby is reading it now. I understand that a lot of babies get cradle cap but most parents at least try to do something about it. We don't think she tries. When he was coming here before, we took care of it and it went away. She kept him away for 5 weeks and now it is back. It might seem like we are picking at her but we are generally concerned. He smelled so bad that I felt like throwing up. My mom said the smell almost gaged her. I know babies get sour but not normally as sour as he was. It was truely gross.

It is likely that the baby is spitting up and not getting cleaned up. My son would smell like puke and in the tub he went with a new outfit on. At least a new outfit. I know when he drooled I would change his outfit and bib no less than five times a day to aviod a rash underneath his chin.
I bet that stuff she is feeding him is causing some issues with his stomach.
And I would be LIVID if the child had a continual diaper rash. My son who is now 5 had ONE diaper rash in his life due to stomach problems, and my oldest son never had one period. I changed them constantly, never let them sit in a wet diaper, ever. I would even get up in the middle of the night and change them so they would not have a soaked diaper in the morning.

She does not put bibs on him and when my husband asked her why she said it's because she was sick of washing them. My son had diaper rash twice when he was first born. The doctor suggested that I use cloth diapers and I did. The rash went away and never came back. The doctor said it was from the plastic in the diapers. My oldest daughter never had diaper rash. My youngest did off and on. She was a premie and on a lot of meds for the first year. The doctor said the meds. caused the diaper rash. Actually it was a yeast infection that kept coming back. Finally the doc said to mix yeast infection cream and destin. After I started that she never got the rash again. I think the baby's rash if from not getting changed. Her friend said that she didn't feel he was changed enough. The rash wasn't as bad as before but it still concerned us. I agree that the stuff she is feeding him is messing with his stomach. My hubby asked what he has ate so he knows to give him something he is use to so not reaction is caused. She said he has ate Cambells chicken noodle soup, peas, carrots, sweet potatoes, all baby cereals, mashed potatoes (he's allergic to milk), creamed peas (again he is allergic to milk), and she couldn't remember what else. She said she has him on stage 2 foods. My husband feed him peas but they were stage 1. She has not had him eat any fruit and thats what babies usually eat 1st. She also said that he has tried drinking Coke. My husband had to control his anger. 5 monthes old drinking soda!

Many pediatricians recommend starting babies on vegetables first. Once you develop a taste for sweeter things, it's hard to go back to the not-sweet.
The cradle cap isn't that big of a deal, and it's not due to poor hygiene. You can help it clear-up faster, or it'll go away on it's own.
My daughter never had a diaper rash, but my son had them constantly. Essentially, his skin didn't deal well with his own fluids. Not only on his bottom, but on his chin where he drooled. No matter how fast I cleaned him off or what he ate...his skin would break out. Some things made it better or worse, and I could help with Eucerin...but he just had to outgrow it.
I agree....there's no excuse for the soda or the filth.
Just be careful not to make assumptions about all behaviors. Some things may be lazy or poor parenting...some may not.

Thats what she told my husband. She said he loves Campbells chicken noodle but you have to mash the noodles.

That must be new. I was always told start fruit between 4 to 6 monthes, vegs 6 to 9 monthes, and meats after 9 monthes. She started the baby on vegs at 2 1/2 monthes because she feed him creamed peas from her plate. She also fed him baby cereal off a spoon a week before he turned 3 monthes. She started more vegs at almost 4 monthes and meats too.

That is so bad for their digestive track. My son's ped. was adamant about NOT starting babies on food/cereal too early and def. no table foods until they were older. Like almost 9 months to a year old not that they are "old".

My husband told her that but she won't list. Starting foods early can cause allergies and intestinal blockage.

Well...I was a nanny some 17 years ago, and it was fairly standard then.....same with both of my children, who are 13 and 9. At any rate...it's not that big of a deal. Formula and packaged baby food are a relatively new inventions, yet people have managed to survive for centuries.
I find processed baby food meat to be absolutely disgusting, so neither of my children ever ate it. When my son was about 2, I had a talk with the pediatrician about his diet, because I was worried. All he ate was pasta, veggies and fruit....with the occasional fish. The pediatrician said..."If that's all he ever eats....he'll outlive us all."
"Average" ages for child-related things are just that...."average."
