I hired a lawyer that was a family friend that handled divorces thinking he would keep my best interest's in mind and it turned out to be a bad decision but what do I do now? I am in the final stages of my divorce, working on on my 5th agreement!! and my soon to be ex's lawyer is still trying to get more and my lawyer just gave up on me. I have gone to trial and we agreed on the things that were the problem parts,only to have the other lawyer re-type the whole agreement and change those things and more. What the heck can I do to end this? It is just getting absolutly ridiculous. Do I have another lawyer look at the agreement to see if this thing is wrong or what?

It sucks but you can't settle unless your spouse wants to also .

The problem is not the spouse, she wants it over as much as i do but her lawyer is doing everything in her power to rack up the bill and my spouse wont listen to me. Her lawyer has brought me to depositions, trial not once but twice and then switches things around. It is getting ridiculous.

sO, ARE YOU DIVORCED AFTER THE TRIAL OR AFTER THE AGREEMENT IS TYPED UP CORRECTLY? i AM IN THE SAME BOAT. My lawyer was a joke. Hang in there, unfortunaley you are not alone.

Well here I am 17 months later and still no agreement! I am supposed to be divorced after the agreement is signed but we are heading back to trial again.

Well you've got me beat by 3 months. It took me 3 lawyers and 14 months before mine was finally over. I fired the first one after 6 months and she had not even so much as come up with a reasonable version of the decree. The second I had for 2 weeks when he excused himself because he was a personal friend of fired lawyer #1. In this time my ex was busy draining accounts and destroying my credit. My ex aptly dubbed my 3rd lawyer as a 'used car salesman' and the lemon of a final agreement he talked me into is till causing me problems 6 years later.
