(Off topic) Ever Feel Like A Horrible Parent
      #197 - 06/13/04 09:06 PM

Ever go off the deep end with them once or twice, or just completely lose your patience over what you see later as nothing. I did that tonight before I put Nick to bed. He's going back with Mom tomorrow and I have nothing but guilt surging through me. Sometimes I feel like such a horrible Dad.

You'd be a horrible parent if you didn't think or [Re: Nicksdad]

you didn't care. Not that you care, I remember a time after my sister died.. where my patience was VERY thin. I had an appointment early morning and my son had decided to HIDE my keys! Not only did he hide them, he forgot where he put them...plus he didn't want to get his shoes on..

I remember yelling.. "where are my keys, find my keys" and then "get your shoes on".. and then "why are you not trying to find my keys"..... I had him SO flustered.. and I realized it.... I sat down on the stairs and just cried.... I called him in and told him how sorry I was and that I never meant to hurt his feelings.... I felt horrible! I called my sister (the one that's alive) in tears...

If you weren't a good parent, you wouldn't had realize what you had done, and you wouldn't care. We all do it. What makes us good parents is that we realize it, work towards not doing it again.
;)

Good response!

ND, it is totally normal! You wouldn't believe how horrible and guilty I feel after having went "off" on my kids for no reason but for the fact that I was in a bad mood. I think everyone has days like that :) ESPECIALLY my stepson who just turned 13. Every day is a bad day for him it seems like :P

And Caroline was right when she said that what makes you a good parent is because you actually care about it.

Just keep on doing what you are doing, because whatever it is, is right. You really care.

Have a good one!

M5 I put RWS, Runs With Scissors, Caroline, JJ, Anon on ignore when I first joined here so I have no idea what she said but thanks for your comments. It helps.

Yes, definitely. More often than I care to admit, I've lost my temper with K and her dawdling, or her habit of "forgetting" to put things away when she knows where they go... 99% of the time, it's because I'm stressed or upset about something else, and once I realize what I've done, I end up apologizing to her and explaining that Mommy was upset about something else. Then, we do whatever it was together.

I know one huge reason I tend to lose it from time to time is that I don't get a break, and the tension has to come out somewhere.
