Global warming is very real, but the point of this is that Gore looks like a hypocrite if he preaches one thing and lives another.

...with the entire theory (and THAT is what it is, a THEORY) of global warming, I respect anyone who believes in something, and alters their lifestyle of actions to align themselves with that belief.
I consider people such as Swaggart or Baker hypocrites, as they preached the bible, but used the money earned for he "work of God" for personal enrichment and actions that were in direct opposition to their SUPPOSED beliefs.
Now, Al Gore. Well, Al wants me to drive a hybrid, ride a bike, reduce my carbon footprint, etc. HE, however, wants to drive an SUV, ride in PRIVATE [censored], live in a HUGE home, and consume as much energy as he wants, as long as he BUYS his way out with carbon credits (which, if you THINK about it, is about the most ridiculous things I have ever heard. It's okay to use as much energy as you want, as long as you PAY someone else NOT to use it)
Now, is it POSSIBLE to live the life Al expounges? Look at Ed Begley JR. This is a man I have the UTMOST respect for. He, in MANY interviews, has SAID that he is not trying to force ANYONE to live his lifestyle, but IS living his life as an example of what he CAN do. Doe she fly? Of course, he is an actor, and sometimes you have to be at different places that are too far apart to drive (a hybrid, of course). So he DOES fly. COMMERCIAL, in a jet with LOTS of other travellers.
He lives the lifestyle he thinks is best, and tries to get others to see that you CAN live that way, if you want to. Even to the point, and I agree with him, that SOME of the "green" modifications can actually save you money.
But the stats and proof from the movie "Inconvienent Truth" are real, regardless of who delivers them.
Ummmm...seems to be in question....

Gore: About a year ago we bought a hybrid, but I don't drive very much. We've changed our entire lifestyle. We made the decision to be carbon-neutral and eliminate any net CO2 contribution to the environment. Even "An Inconvenient Truth" was produced in part using carbon-neutral, alternative energies. Paramount also made the decision to ensure that the tour and the promotional activities would be done in a carbon-neutral way.

Did they happen to use "carbon credits" to accomplish this?
http://www.fundstrategy.co.uk/cgi-bin/item.cgi?id=141286
"The FT says there are many examples of "carbon credit" projects yielding few if any environmental benefits. Credits are often worthless and do not lead to reductions in carbon emissions. Many companies profit from doing little. And companies as well as individuals are often charged excessively for European Union (EU) carbon credits."

Let's see - I remember when:
1. Scientist were stating that we were going to go thru an ice age soon!
2. Remember Y2K, when the world as we know it, was going to stop?
3. Remember acid rain - when we the last time we heard anything about that stuff?
4. Remember the hole in the ozone - did it get patched?

Carbon Credits mean squat. Buying your way out of an excuse for driving a big arse SUV is immaterial if you really truly passionately believe that everyone needs to reduce their carbon emissions. Basically you are paying guilt money and thinking you are making a difference. How is paying your way out of it OK? Does this in reality reduce the amount of emissions that SUV puffs out? Of course it doesn't! All it means is Mr Gore (aka I Was Robbed)has the money to buy his way out of guilt.
Carbon-neutral? That is PC gobboldy gook for 'No carbon atoms were harmed, emitted or damaged in the making of this movie." So no one drove a car anywhere, no one flew a plane anywhere. Give me a break.
I recycle but guess what? My city (in its infinite wisdom) chose not to recycle glass any longer. If I want to dispose of my glass in a meaningful manner I have to DRIVE to the other end of town to do so. So by not filling up the earth with glass means I emit dangerous emissions from my car and gas small animals.
The ONLY way you can make a difference is by walking the walk. Global warming may be so. But when I check out the weather almanac the previous highest temps were nearly 80 yrs ago... the record lows, in the last 20 years.
If you truly passionately believe in conserving your resources, suggest to your kids they take a bus to school or they don't really need those cars you talk about. And your vacation to Florida? Why not explore your own state first or the ones neighbouring yours?
I think though that when your token effort is not up to the standard of Ed Begly then you really cannot crow about St Al and his 'do as I say, not as I do' philosophy.
