I just received a call from my husband stating his step father left a note this morning stating "he could not take it anymore and he was leaving." My mother-in-law has MS and she is bed ridden. She has nurses who come in for 8 hours per day and her husband took care of her in the evenings. He was responsible for getting her medications, helping her to the bathroom, getting her meals, etc. I know that he has been seeing and talking to his ex-wife and I feel this is why he has had enough and has decided that he can no longer fulfill his obligations. Could someone please, please help me figure out what to tell my mother-in-law? She has no means of transportation, nobody to help her now and she lives off social security.

I'm sorry to hear that your MIL has been left high and dry. Is your step FIL still working? Maybe your MIL could get an emergency hearing or something like it, to get immediate support from the bum. There is probably some senior citizen advocacy group which you could contact, to see if there are funds available for your MIL to receive round-the-clock care in her own home. Otherwise, the alternative is to help her move to a nursing home.
Here is a link which will help you locate a few local organizations:

Thank you so much. My FIL is working but under the table, which makes it diffecult to actually get assistance for her. He already filed for divorce which I was not aware of. She will be served either today or tomorrow. I will certainly look into the senior citizen's advocacy group to see if they can help her. She is not a senior citizen, she's only 50 but she is a disabled woman. Non the less I will see if they can help her. Thanks again for your help!
