Is it possible that she's making money from the site? Are there ads in there? (I'm not registering to find out!)

I even wondered about that one myself.

Y'all are a cynical bunch. Did your divorces do this to you?
No one is making a thing off that girls message board. It is a free forum, there are no ads, just a board for discussion.
Is it REALLY that hard to believe that there are people in the world looking for absolutely nothing other than friendship/support?

Believe me, divorce didn't make people here that cautious. The BOARDS do that. We get spammers, trolls, and people just looking to make a buck EVERY DAY on this site...and others. Its the way the internet works. If you spend time on message boards, you'll see it so often that you get used to it.

She isnt making money from the site. As far as I can tell, there arent many users and I am assuming this person is a friend of hers, trying to get her more support. There are no ads in there.

There was no cynacism in my post. My post only queried if there were ads in it.

There are only a few kind of individual-owned sites on the web. And if your friend is in financial need, it would make sense for her to set up a site that generated income. That can be done in several ways...one way is selling ad space (but one has to have the traffic to generate sales to the advertisers, hence the request to visit her site.)

Other ways are to sell memberships to the website or to sell a product.

Seriously, the best advice you can give your friend is to start looking for work immediately. If she doesn't have the education, she needs to get it. They site is all nice and stuff but it won't pay the bills. She needs to face the fact that her life as a SAHM is over and she needs to be a big girl and re-enter the work force.

Like now.

She is better off on Monster.com than sahm.com (or whatever it's called)

That's not necessarily true. If the children are small and the stbx is making enough that he can support the two households (I have only met one person that was in this situation), then she may still be able to be a sahm until the kids are in school full-time. She needs to discuss this with her attorney.

Granted, this is rare when this is the case, but it is possible.

well, you are right. In my case, my kids werent all that small but I was paying enough for her to keep her SAHM lifestyle (for over 10 years)
