We've had some severe thunderstorms raging through here the last few days. We have our computers and big screen TV all on power surge and spike protectors. HOWEVER, when hubby hooked the TV back up after we moved in here, he never hooked the cable back into it. ::sigh:: So guess where the lightning I could've swore hit the house Friday night went?
Now the cable company wanted to argue with me. Cable's grounded 3 times, no way lightening can hit it. Listen up wench! DVD/VCR/surround sound ALL hooked into the same power protection, ALL fine. The ONLY things with no power anymore...TV and cable converter box...BOTH hooked to cable. Add to that, internet ALSO went down. Ok, let's try this and this and this. Listen moron! I'm a certified network tech...capice? I've ALREADY tried 3 different ethernet cables, one BRAND NEW. I ALREADY disconnected from the router and linked DIRECTLY to my computer. Well....must be your computer that got hit then. Listen you knuckle headed baboon! I ALSO hooked it directly to another computer ON A DIFFERENT BREAKER and STILL nothing, so its the ethernet port on the CABLE MODEM. Nahhh, can't be. I can see your modem from here and its working. Can you see the ethernet port? The modem's fine, its working. Gimme a supervisor. A supervisor isn't going to tell you anything that I can't tell you. So you won't schedule a tech or gimme a sup? Nope. Then I'll just call back and let them know you refused me a supervisor. That's fine.....Thank you Janine! Click!
The next guy I got scheduled a tech, got me a sup, and Janine's in some serious deep doggy doo. Cause I popped into Wal*Mart and picked up another modem, which I'll return after cable guy replaces mine tomorrow, and guess what...it works! But Janine KNEW the other modem was just fine, right Janine? Putz.
Anyway, thank God for warranties. TV's under warranty and I gotta call the local repair in the morning. It went through the modem, out the ethernet port, jumped to the next port in line on the router, which was the ethernet to hubby's computer and took out his NIC...which is integrated onto the motherboard. Was going to pull the other NIC card from a third comp but he doesn't wanna fool with it and will wait. Dell will have a tech call us this week to set an appt. to replace the motherboard.
And now...my cellphone, third one, is on the fritz. I keep having a problem with this model of Motorola and its ticking me off.
Lastly...yeah, there's more. I'm awaiting the arrival of the SEVENTH multi-disc changer for my car. This one however is brand new from a showroom vehicle in PA they're sending over, since the previous 6 refurbished ones all have problems.
Thank God for warranties, but DAMN they're a pain! And it felt gooooooooooood to get all that off my chest. I now return you to your regularly schedule programming. LOL

Thank goodness they were underwarranty. We were talking at work about how expensive the newer TVs are and one guy said he spent 200.00 on a UPS for his TV, It has the cable, satellite and telephone connections that run through it.
It was something like this one:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?...d=1156607168057
It might prevent some headaches in the future.

We have one. When we moved in though, hubby neglected to run the cable back through it. He just put all the AC plugs in and not the cable. And the lightening of course goes and strikes the cable. Figures.

Sorry, thought you meant the strip kind, I like the UPS idea better, and had never thought of it until it was brought up to me.

We actually got our TV, DVD/VCR, sound system, AND the power box all at Best Buy at the same time. This one protects against both surges AND spikes. And hubby keeps kicking himself for not having hooked the cable into it. Especially considering that the cable guy was here today and discovered that whomever installed the cable hadn't grounded it like they were supposed to. So he grounded it and corrected some other mistakes the previous installer had made, replaced the blown modem and cable box. And the TV repairmen took the TV into the shop. Said they'll probably have it back by Thursday. All that's left is waiting on the Dell tech to call us to come out and replace the motherboard. Not gonna worry about the router, since the Vonage device is a router as well. Just went directly through it.
