health insurance

Looking for general opinions on a very general question.

Does the divorced non-working spouse that could work and a get a job that has health benefits (public school teacher) generally get health insurance coverage during a divorce.

My plan forces me to drop my divorced spouse. A new plan for coverage is expensive.

You may be required to continue coverage on any children. But it's extremely rare that anyone is required to carry insurance on an ex-spouse. Usually it's in cases where the spouse is disabled and relies on that insurance and is otherwise uninsurable for pre-existing conditions, or it's carried for a temporary time to allow the other to obtain separate insurance. But generally, they are offered the COBRA from the existing insurance and it's up to them to either take it or get other insurance.

Usually it stays the same until the divorce is final unless otherwise ordered. After the divorce is final it would be like AH stated.
