Sadly, I have been divorced twice. I told my DH after I got my new SS card that I can't change my name anymore...you only can apply for a new card 10 times

lol
Anyway, I took my new husband's last name. It is sad in a way...because my two sons from my first marriage have their dad's name (who they still see) but my third son (from my brief, horrible second marriage) has his BF's name--last and middle are from him--and he is the only one in the family with that name. His BF committed a horrible 'act' that caused our divorce and he will never be involved in my DS's life. SO, I'm stuck. He's only 4 so he doesn't know that he is the 'different' one yet. My DH wants to adopt him and we are looking into getting the BF to give up parental rights (as a first step anyway). Who knows how long it will take to do that, file for adoption, etc.?

Has anyone had to do a name change like that? For a child?
