I'm in a similar situation. My teenage daughter, who also has "her head screwed on straight" does not feel that she's healed enough from her dad moving out of state yet to deal with him. I continue to talk to her supportively about, in our case, simply talking to him on the phone. We've been seeing a counselor for almost a year now as a family (minus X since he's out of state) and I have had her discuss it with him too.
I feel at some point you're doing more harm by forcing a situation then letting them make their own choices. I will continue to reinforce that she rebuild her relationship with him but I will not continue to create division between her and I because of his poor choices.
