See your ethnocentrism shines right through. Maybe if you actually understood that natives don't follow the same funeral rites as "whites" do, you'd know that for many Micmac's, funerals aren't until 6 weeks after the person has died, and been embalmed. So, once again, nice try jessica fletcher, but learn how people's culture works before you presume that we all adhere to your way of doing things.

I believe different "whites" may all have different funeral rituals depending on belief and religion. So lumping it into the term "whites" is really misplaced. I believe those of the Jewish persuasion have funeral proceedings immediately. Catholics, usually within a week. I am not sure about others.

My grandmother's family does not embalm, but immediately cremates.
My husband's family typically waits 2+ weeks, but not for any cultural or religious reasons.

Is that true????? WOW, that goes totally against the Micmac tradition....Weird.....6 weeks and then get embalmed.

Not sure if goes against MicMac traadition. I found few results. However, most indicate that they use Christian burial traditions and that they favor cremation. Most states and provinces also have laws limiting how long after death a person must be buried. Usually it is two to three weeks.

I'm not so sure that the 6 weeks and embalming were in any particular order. That being said....let me add....who gives a crap.
