Ohio Divorce Law Issues
      #3956 - 11/06/04 09:39 PM

I was married for five years before becoming separated 10 months ago. I originally hired a Union attorney as my soon to be ex-wife had agreed to a dissolution. At the last minute, she decided to become greedy and demanded things I was not willing to give her. As a result, we had to go for a full-blown divorce. I kept my original attorney and she hired her own. This divorce has been progressing at a snail's pace. Even though we were only married five years, I am now paying her spousal support and paying for her to live in the home bought before we ever knew one another. We have a four-year old daughter. She has pulled out all the stops in the name of greed. She works for her aunt and is paid "under the table" and my attorney tells me that doesn't count and he can't do anything about it. Also, her lawyer is after half my PERS account/retirement even though we've only been married five years. I don't feel I should have to support her since she is able to work. She farms our daughter out to sitters more often than she has her, even though she has temporary custody, so babysitters are no excuse for her not working. She has a college degree. I feel like I'm being railroaded...I'm not sure if my lawyer is looking out for my best interests, but the only way I can seem to secure a new one is to fire my old one first, and put down another retainer (LARGE)on another one. No one is willing to give me advice. I don't want to fire my lawyer and start all over only to find out there's nothing that can be done after I've paid that one too. I am also being told that I have to pay for her lawyer. Has anyone dealt with any of these issues in the State of Ohio. HELP!!!!!

P.S. I'm not a rich man. I only make $36,000 a year and we have few assets.

If you owned a business, and an employee was not performing to your liking, you would begin to look for someone else, right? Well, your lawyer is YOUR employee. Ask around, show them the papers, and ask what they can do.

Why give a "senior" discount, they have had plenty of time to raise the money...
