Wow! Heavy weekend on this board!
On a lighter note...my D's are in Florida with my parents.....My dad took them out on the boat on Saturday. They stopped at an island for a picnic lunch. My D13 got on the 2-person inflatable, the kind that you tow behind the boat... The current took her out to the end of the tow rope...about 80 feet (yes, she was wearing a lifevest.) When she got out there, she got SURROUNDED by a family of about 16 MANATEES! Some were full-size (12 feet long!) and one was a tiny baby, about the size of a watermelon! They all came up to her and started gently nudging her raft. So, she's laying on this raft, the manatees are sticking their faces out of the water, looking at her...inches away from her...going under her raft, blowing air on her, checking her out.
I asked her if she touched any of them and she said "no, that's illegal." (In Florida, Manatees can approach you, but you aren't allowed to approch them.)
Dolphins can always be found near manatees in this area, so then a baby dolphin comes up to her raft too and spouted water on her!!!
So, how many 13 year olds can say that were surrounded by 16 of the most gentle, peaceful, endangered species on this planet and got splashed by a wild, baby dolphin?!?!?!?
In the future, when anyone asks me why I love Florida so much...this is why!!! What a surreal experience for her!

My kids would have flipped- they adore manatees! Lucky her!
Where was this in Florida???
I wanna go!
Do your parents have room for one more? I can cook and I clean VERY well! ;)

Manatees are all over the Banana River...the part of the Intercoastal waterway located between Cocoa Beach and Merritt Island.
If we are ever there at the same time, we'd love to take you out of the boat...sometimes we'll see manatees, dolphins and a Space Shuttle launch all at the same time when we are out on the boat! It just doesn't get any better!!! :)

That area is great. Lived in Satilite Beach a while when I was in my very early twenties. Alot to do and see. Not far from Orlando either. I think its 520 that runs from Coco to Orlando. Loved seeing the gaters on the road.

My brother lives in Satellite Beach. Yeah, 520 and 528 are the major roads leading there. About 1 hour from Disney.

When we visit we always go to Fort Lauderdale- we go at least once a year. We are hoping to go back to Fla this summer before the kids start school and all the craziness comes to life!

Ugghhh, Florida in the summer. :( Of course, who am I to talk, I'm going to Key West in 30 days and can't freakin' wait!!!!
I love Florida, I want to move back now more than ever. I just can't stand the cold!!!!

Me too... We decided when SD was able to see us via airplane we would try and make our way out to Fla... Just hasn't been in the cards job wise.
I HATE Fla in the summer- hot, sticky, bugs, but as long as I am near the water and in a nice hotel- I'm cool with it :) Our prime times are usually March-May.
I'm missing it already!!!

I love the Keys ( got several Hogs Breath Saloon shirts lol ).... I was born just south of Miami. I like to visit... could not stand to live there... not a big fan of hot weather.. I'm a snow lover. Plus I have to have the seasons.
