Angry about lawyer behaviour!
      #414575 - 06/17/08 10:55 AM

In Louisiana and Feb. 07, I hired a lawyer and asked for a divorce. He took my case and my "ex-husband" was served with papers. THEN I was told that my date would be that same day the next year because we have children. THEN he told me I should sue for custody but I didn't have to if we had a mutual agreement.

My "ex-husband" agreed to let me keep the children (I was a stay at home mom, and the only one taking care of their needs anyway because my "ex-husband" was an emotionless and neglegent robot who did not communicate at all with us). So with his consent, I took the kids (4 years old, and 10 months old) to Texas to go to school full time so I could get a carreer. He ALSO payed for my nanny's fees.

Well through the year, My lawyer never contacted me, or return ANY of my calls!

Come Feb. of THIS year, my divorce date came and left. Still no sign of my lawyer or contact or call-backs at all! I didn't get any court papers or anything, so I was under the impression that he did his job and served my ex-husband and I was now divorced.

So I moved to Austin with my children, with his consent, and fell in love with a friend who I am NOW engaged to, AND 6 weeks pregnant! I kept full open contact with my ex and let him have full rights to see, talk to, and be with the kids. I also kept good attitude towards him, as well as made it a point to drive my children to stay with him every once in a while when my 4yr old asked to see daddy!

So, I call the court in Louisiana for a copy of my divorce papers, and they inform me I"M STILL MARRIED!

I called and called my lawyer, and decided to threaten him with a grievance if he didn't return my calls. HE FINALLY CALLED ME! I was so upset that I called another lawyer there to take my case and fire him.

SO, this NEW lawyer makes an apointment with me for 9am this morning and asks for $3500.00 up front for retainer fees. I couldn't make the drive, so I called his office. I called again.... I offered to do it over the phone and to pay and hire him....still couldn't contact him. His secretary told me he hadn't come in yet, at 9:30! I asked that he call me. SO, I called him at 10! "He's in his office with a client".

Holy crap! I told her "It's a good damn thing I didn't drive all the way out there to make my APPOINTMENT!" and hung up.

I called an attorney in Texas, who informed me that I may transfer my case to here. Cool. How do I get it transfered without dealing with another stupid lawyer?

My "ex-husband" is angry and retaliating against me because I got "knocked up"! He's threatning to sue me for custody now, and I need to act fast! Like TODAY fast! But I can't get a damn lawyer for hire. They are interested in my case, I have a very strong case (I'll tell you the whole story if you wanna hear it) but how hard could it be to ask for a transfer without getting the run around or being lied to by some lawyer again? sigh
